Microsoft explains why Lumia 930 is not yet supported

Microsoft announced that the next Windows 10 for phones preview build would ship on Friday at 10 AM PT, and the company also confirmed that Lumia 930 and the Icon wouldn’t be supported in the next release due to critical bugs it discovered recently.

On the other hand, the Lumia 1520 phablet, which is the other flagship in Microsoft’s lineup, would get the next Windows 10 for phones preview build, Redmond revealed.

So why isn’t the Lumia 930 getting it? Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, has explained on Twitter that the new preview build is very unstable on the 5-incher, which makes it pretty unusable for the time being.

On the other hand, the Lumia 1520 seems to work way better with the new update, despite a number of bugs that were already found. Aul says that he’s now using the Lumia 1520 with Windows 10 as his main device, which is living proof that the new preview build is quite reliable and stable on the phablet.

The low-end Lumia 520 will get it too

It’s surely frustrating to spend so much money on the Lumia 930 and wait months before getting access to Windows 10 for phones preview, but what’s worse is that pretty much everyone else gets it, including the low-end Lumia 520.

Right now, the Lumia 520 is the best-selling Windows Phone devices across the world, so the decision to bring Windows 10 for phones preview on this particular model is not at all surprising, given the fact that Microsoft needs as much feedback as possible.

As far as the 930 is concerned, there are no details as to when this model could be included in the support models list, but expect the next Windows 10 version to work on it too, as it’s pretty clear that flagship owners are slowly losing their patience.
