Word has it Microsoft would release the preview these days

It's February already, and as Microsoft promised a couple of weeks ago, this is the month when the company would unveil the very first technical preview of Windows 10 for Phones, a new operating system designed for smartphones and available for all devices running Windows Phone 8.1.

The preview version, which will be part of a new Windows Insider Program specifically released for phones, is expected to launch sometime this week, if some of the rumors swirling around these days are accurate.

It all started with a Reddit post which claimed that the preview could launch on February 4, but given the fact that there's absolutely no information to back it up, it's hard to tell whether this reveal is true or not.

And yet, we're also hearing that Microsoft might release Windows 10 for Phones preview sometime this week, but the company can very well push the launch back if something goes wrong at the very last minute.

This is actually one of the reasons the software vendor no longer provides specific release dates for its preview builds, as work goes on night and day on this build, and if something bad happens during development, it can easily delay the release without any criticism.

New Windows Insider Program coming for phones

Microsoft has already launched an app that will provide Windows Phone 8.1 users with access to the new Windows Insider Program for smartphones, but right now, all of its features are locked and no download is available.

If the above information is true, expect the company to unlock the app anytime soon, and it's going to work pretty much like the program available for the PC.

Basically, users only need to provide their Microsoft account credentials to register for the program and then get access to early builds of Windows 10 for Phones that can be freely installed on their devices.

We're still waiting for some official confirmation from Microsoft on the release date of the new Windows 10 for Phones preview, so don't take anything for granted right now.
