Microsoft has just rolled out the first technical preview build of Windows 10 for phones, but contrary to what many people believed, the release will only be pushed to few devices.

Windows 10 for phones preview allows users to try out the new Microsoft operating system for smartphones that's supposed to bring Redmond's platforms closer together by offering a similar experience across all devices.

Starting with Windows 10, phones finally get features that look more like those on the desktop, including a new PC settings screen that perfectly resembles the one on the traditional PC.

Supported phones

Unfortunately for the majority of Windows Phone users, the preview is available only for six different devices, as it follows:

Lumia 630 Lumia 635 Lumia 636 Lumia 638 Lumia 730 Lumia 830

Obviously, many are extremely disappointed with Redmond's decision to ignore not only flagships such as Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520, but also Lumia 520, which is currently the most popular Windows Phone device on the market.

The company promised to roll out the update to more devices in the coming months, but there are no details as to when this is expected to happen.

How to download it

If you want to download the Windows 10 preview for phones, you first need to register for the program using this link. Afterwards, download the Windows Insider app for Windows Phone, which will allow you to get the early builds right on your phone.

As usual, make sure that your device is fully charged or at least plugged in before starting the process because a failed installation process could brick the device.

Microsoft promised to offer a rollback system for those who do not want to stick to the Windows 10 for phones preview, but more details on this would be provided very soon.
