14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft is working on a new build of Windows 10 for phones preview, and according to our sources, this version could be released in March, most likely in the last week of the month.
While details are not yet available, what we have here are leaked screenshots of Windows 10 for phones build 10038.12518, a new version of the operating system that includes a number of improvements over the previous build.
At this point, it’s not yet clear whether this could be the build to be released to users later this month, but this particular version seems to be rather focused on visual refinements than on new features, so it won’t bring too exciting features for Windows insiders.
Spartan not available yet
The screenshots, published by Chinese website IThome, show a few refinements here and there, but as far as new features and options are concerned, they are missing almost completely from this new build.
For example, screenshots show a new phone dialer, which is even flatter and gets in line with Microsoft’s new design approach, but otherwise, there are only small improvements across the operating system.
The Start screen no longer has a vertical live tile and comes with the previous standard sizes, which could be a sign that Microsoft actually gave up on the new design and wants to stick to the original version.
Contrary to what some people expected, Spartan is not yet available, so Internet Explorer continues to be the default browser. Spartan will, however, be included in the next testing build for PCs.
This new version for phones will also include Office Touch and is expected to support more phones, such as flagships that were previously skipped in the initial rollout. Right now, there are absolutely no details regarding the new phones that will be supported in this build, but we’re hearing that both Lumia 930 and 1520 are likely to work with the new preview.
