Microsoft rolled out security fixes for Windows 10 as well

Windows 10 Preview is celebrating its first Patch Tuesday today, and just like the other versions of Windows on the market, it also received a handful of updates supposed to improve security and fix some bugs.

Needless to say, all these patches are being delivered to computers running Windows 10 Preview via Windows Update, so the whole process should be performed automatically.

As you can see in the screenshot attached here, the Windows Technical Preview received three different updates this morning, including a security update for Internet Explorer 11, a new version of Flash Player for the default browser, and a security update for the operating system.

All these updates are also available for the other Windows versions, so they’re only supposed to improve the security of the platform and fix a number of vulnerabilities that were found in the operating system.

New build of the OS also expected this week

Microsoft has already confirmed this, and sources from within the company have also told us that a new Windows 10 Preview build should see daylight very soon, so users running this particular operating system could receive even more improvements sometime this week.

Windows 10 Preview comes with a built-in update system, independent of Windows Update, which allows computers running it to receive large batches of improvements without the need for a clean install.

This way, Microsoft can easily update builds automatically whenever new features are ready for testing.

People close to the development process have explained that Redmond is planning to update Windows 10 Preview once or twice per month, but the upcoming release will be the very first pack of improvements for the original build rolled out on October 1.

New features on their way

Windows 10 Preview build 9841 sure comes with lots of new features, including a Start menu and multiple desktops, but future updates could bring even more improvements in this regard, sources say.

At this point, the notification center is already implemented in Windows 10 Preview, but its features are locked for the time being, so Microsoft could finally make it available in the upcoming OS update.

Cortana references have also been spotted in the Windows 10 Preview, but as compared to the notification center, this feature is still in its very early development stage, so it could take a while until the company is ready to share it with users. Cortana might in the end show up only in the final build of Windows 10, but it remains to be seen if Microsoft wants to hear from users on its functionality before spring 2015.
