14 DAY TRIAL // With Windows 10, Microsoft is changing the way users are getting updates on their computers, and it turns out that the whole system will be entirely automatic for those who will be running Windows 10 Home edition.
In specifications posted on its Windows 10 FAQ page, Microsoft explains that only those running Windows 10 Pro or above will be allowed to postpone the installation of updates, which means that those who will be sticking to Home will get them exactly when they are released.
“Windows 10 Home users will have updates from Windows Update automatically available. Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise users will have the ability to defer updates,” the company explains.
Botched updates anyone?
It’s a well-known fact that Patch Tuesday isn’t quite the happiest day of the month for many Windows users because Microsoft often rolled out updates that proved to be causing more harm than good and break down certain features or the operating system itself.
With Windows 10 Home users getting all updates automatically, and without options to delay the installation of these updates, the number of computers that might be impacted by botched updates could increase, which might obviously become a huge problem not only for Microsoft but also for its customers.
Patch Tuesday will live on once Windows 10 comes out, with Microsoft saying that updates will continue to be released every second Tuesday of each month in order to keep all devices up to date.
Windows 10 will be released on July 29, and Microsoft will offer the new OS as a free upgrade during the first 12 months after launch, so many users are expected to upgrade their Windows 7 and 8.1 devices to benefit from this offer.
As part of the 12-month promo, Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, and Windows 7 Home Premium will all be upgraded to Windows 10 Home, so no option to defer updates will be available on these OS versions.
