Designer brings improvements to the Windows desktop

Windows 10 Preview is first and foremost designed to improve the desktop by adding a few new options, including a revamped Start menu, multiple desktops, and subtle changes to other visual elements of the operating system.

And still, as compared to what people expected to see, the company didn't change the look of the desktop too much, and the only improvements in terms of appearance that users get are a new File Explorer icon and a couple of new options in the file manager.

There are some people out there, however, who have already imagined a revamped desktop, and this is the case of this concept created by DeviantArt user ap-graphik.

His very own Windows 10 concept imagines a revamped desktop that looks a bit more modern and adds a fresh touch to the look that has been around since Windows 7.

Flatter look and new File Explorer

As you can see for yourselves by clicking the adjacent photo, the concept comes with a revised look for the desktop that brings borderless windows with shadow effects, flatter icons, and several refinements here and there.

At the same time, File Explorer includes new features, such as tabs, and removes the search box. With this new version of the app, users would be able to search for content by simply starting typing, in a same way you can do in Ubuntu.

"On the menu : tabs ! no search box (a similar system as Ubuntu, you just type when the window is selected, or use CTRL+F if you prefer), only one option button (with 'new folder,' 'copy,' 'paste,' ... all that good stuff), but icons can be added between the address box and the file button (just like in Firefox), new icons more 'flat,' borderless windows with good shadows, and a new overall friendly appearance," he said.

Microsoft unlikely to change the looks of the desktop

Even though Windows 10 is still in preview stage, little is expected to change before the operating system hits the market in stable form, at least as far as the desktop is concerned.

Microsoft wants Windows 10 to be a rather familiar operating system, and offering a desktop that's very similar to the one in preview Windows versions is really a must, especially because the lack of familiar elements was one of the most criticized elements in Windows 8.

There's no doubt that users would like to get more customization options in Windows 10, but as it seems, Microsoft isn't yet ready to offer more such settings for the desktop.
