Microsoft will soon roll it out to “slow ring” users

Microsoft recently rolled out Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9879 to those who opted for fast updates in the operating system, but the company now says that everyone should be getting this particular version in the coming days.

Gabriel Aul, who’s in charge of keeping us fully up to date with what’s happening with the Windows 10 project, revealed in a short tweet that “slow ring” users will also get build 9879 through the integrated Windows Update system in the coming days.

No other details have been provided, by Aul revealed that the release date depends on a hotfix that’s being developed right now by the Windows team, so expect the new build to become available in just a few days for everyone.

How to get Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9879 right now

At this point, there are basically two ways to get the new build right now without waiting for the company to push it to slow ring users.

First and foremost, you can always switch to the fast channel and get new versions as soon as they’re released, but keep in mind that some could come with bugs and other performance issues that might break down a number of features.

To do this, follow the next path:

code
PC settings > Update and recovery > Preview builds > Fast
If you can’t see the new version, just reboot your computer and it should show up.

The second option is to manually download the Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9879 ISO and perform a clean install or upgrade the current installation on your computer. This obviously requires additional work, so you might want to stick to the first method.

What’s new in Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9879

The new version of Windows 10 comes with changes for OneDrive, which no longer uses placeholders and allows you to configure the folders that you want to synchronize.

At the same time, this build also introduces options to disable the search and the Task view buttons on the taskbar, both of which were implemented in the previous build. Last but not least, it also moves the notification center right next to the taskbar clock for easier access.

Windows 10 Technical Preview build 9879 is the last update of the year for the Windows Insider Program, but Microsoft promises to come back with many more improvements in early 2015. Until now, just hope that no major bugs or critical issues are found in the operating system.
