A new version of Windows 10 is found by Windows Update

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 build 10061 earlier today, but interestingly, that’s not the only version of the technical preview that shows up in Windows Update for some users.

Windows 10 build 10066 also appears to be available for a number of users, but just as expected, it cannot be downloaded for the time being.

As you can see in the screenshot above, fbl_impressive Professional 10066 is being displayed on some computers, but as it happened before with build 10061, it’s very likely to be offered only to Microsoft employees.

It’s also worth mentioning that this build only shows up on Windows 10 build 10056, which was leaked last week and is not an official release by Microsoft. Interestingly, Windows 10 build 10056 cannot be updated to build 10061, so this could be one of the reasons why it attempts to download an even newer build that could be offered only to company employees.

New build next week?

What’s also very interesting is the timing that Microsoft has picked for this new release. Previously, it was believed that the company would launch a new version of the Technical Preview at the BUILD developer conference that kicks off on April 29, but with 10061 now available for all insiders, everyone’s wondering whether Redmond has anything else prepared for the conference.

With build 10066 in the pipeline and 100100 reportedly compiled, a new build could indeed be released or at least demoed by Microsoft during its developer conference, in order to provide us with a glimpse into some of the features that aren’t yet ready for public testing.

At the same time, Microsoft will also release a new version of Office for Windows 10 for phones in late April, so the BUILD developer conference is once again the right moment for this new debut.
