14 DAY TRIAL // There have been plenty of Windows 10 leaks lately, but Microsoft has decided to come up with its very own official release earlier today, so Windows insiders can finally download build 10061 on their computers.
Windows 10 build 10061 comes with almost the same feature lineup of build 10056, so in case you were running this leaked version of the technical preview, chances are that this new release won’t bring you anything exciting.
Probably the biggest addition to build 10061 is the new dark theme, which is now enabled by default, just like in 10056. The dark theme uses black for the Start menu, the taskbar, the notification center, and other visual elements, making Windows 10 indeed look a bit more modern and fresh.
At the same time, users are allowed to change the color of the visual style from the personalization screen, and the operating system can now automatically change these settings based on the wallpaper you use on the desktop.
Spartan not pinned to the taskbar
What’s more surprising is that Spartan browser is no longer pinned to the taskbar, despite the fact that it’s supposed to be offered as the default app for surfing the web in Windows 10. Internet Explorer, on the other hand, is pinned to the taskbar, while those who want to launch Spartan can do it from the Start menu or using search.
There are new Mail and Calendar apps, the same as the ones in build 10056, but which somehow fail to launch on our testing machines. They do work fine on others, so it’s probably just a bug.
Overall, Windows 10 build 10061 looks more refined and improved as compared to the previous official releases as part of the Windows Insider program, but there’s no doubt that more improvements are still needed.
