“It’s just a leak, you need to go back to 10041”

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 build 10061 earlier today, so many users rushed to get it and see what’s new for the operating system that’s going to change everything when it comes out later this year.

Unfortunately, however, the new Windows 10 build 10061 is only available for those running an official version of the technical preview, which means that if you installed any leaks, you won’t be able to get it.

Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, confirmed on Twitter that leaked builds cannot be updated to 10061, which is obviously an issue since the very latest ISOs that were released were for build 10041.

Just install build 10041

In other words, if you’re running 10056, for instance, and you wish to update to the newly-launched Windows 10 Technical Preview build 10061, you have no other option but to go back to build 10041 and then gradually update to newer versions.

Windows 10 build 10041 was the latest release for both slow and fast rings, as Microsoft came across an issue that prevented newer versions from being shipped to those enrolled in the slow channel. Usually, the company pushes builds to the slow ring when it fixes most of the bugs and along with them, new ISOs that could provide clean install are also released.

This time, however, bugs that were spotted in build 10049 prevented Microsoft from rolling out new ISOs, so unfortunately for those who already installed leaked builds, it could really take some time to get to try the new 10061.

If you’re wondering if it’s worth it, build 10061 comes with a new dark theme, Start menu and taskbar improvements, more features for multiple desktops to quickly drag a window from one desktop to another and other small tweaks here and there to improve the overall performance of the operating system.

The new build is still available via Windows Update and there’s no word on when exactly it could become available for slow ring users.
