Microsoft adds resizing options to the Start menu

Screenshots showing Windows 10 build 10056 have reached the web, revealing some of the improvements that Microsoft might be planning to introduce in the next official release of the technical preview.

The resizable Start menu, which was actually one of the most requested features since the first Windows 10 preview build came out in October 2014, is now available in build 10056, along with a number of other changes that could make the Start menu itself a more helpful features.

Redmond has moved the power button just above the “All apps” shortcut, but this might not really be a good idea, since it could be easily clicked accidentally when looking for other apps installed on a PC.

Needless to say, Microsoft is still experimenting right now, so the position of each button could change before Windows 10 RTM comes out, but for us, it’s pretty clear that the power option needs a different place, where it can’t be clicked by mistake.

More changes under the hood

These screenshots don’t really reveal any major change that might be part of build 10056, so most of the enhancements are probably under the hood, where Microsoft focused on improving performance and making the operating system overall more stable and reliable.

Right now, it’s not clear whether build 10056 could be the next one shipped to insiders, but we really doubt it, given the fact that the latest official release was 10049. Microsoft might be rolling out a new technical preview build to testers later this month, but all eyes are now on the phone version that’s getting another update later today.

As for PCs, everyone is still waiting for the official release to the slow ring of build 10049, which would also bring stand-alone ISOs for clean installs, but which will only happen when more fixes and patches are developed for found bugs.

Russian leaker WZor, who also posted these screenshots online, promised to share more information on build 10056 very soon, so expect the full build to leak as well.
