14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 build 10051 got leaked earlier today, so users can now download and install it on their computers to find out what Microsoft has been working on in the last couple of weeks.
Probably the biggest change that's part of this release is the addition of two new Mail and Calendar apps that come with major improvements over their successors, which are being offered right now in all the other technical previews and in Windows 8.1 as well.
The new Mail app features a more modern look, and although it's optimized for touch, it can also be used on a PC with a mouse and a keyboard. A hamburger button in the top left corner allows users to browse email folders and accounts, whereas tabs to change the format of a new email, insert objects, and review the message before sending have also been added.
This email client seems to actually be the foundation of the new Outlook app that's expected to be introduced at some point in the future as part of the free Office suite, with a number of features being already available for devices with touchscreens.
For instance, users can now swipe right and left to perform tasks such as deleting or archiving emails, a capability that's already available in iOS and Android versions of the Outlook client. Similar features will also be available in Windows 10 for phones.
Google Calendar support added
Another big change that Microsoft is introducing with this new build is the addition of Google Calendar support in its own Calendar app.
This particular feature was missing from Windows 8.1 and previous Windows 10 technical previews, despite the fact that users have been requesting it on pretty much all feedback channels.
A Google Calendar account can be added easily from the add new account screen and it works just like any other calendar that has been configured in the app.
Both the new Mail and Calendar apps are expected to be part of the next official release of Windows 10 later this month.
