Good news for Windows insiders, as Microsoft has just rolled out a new version of the Windows 10 Technical Preview that brings one of the most anticipated features of the new operating system: Project Spartan.

That's right, the new browser is now available for testing for all Windows insiders, but only if they are enrolled in the fast ring of the technical preview.

Windows 10 build 10049 is all about Spartan browser, so in addition to this new app, you'll only see a few small improvements and fixes, including some changes made to the Photos app.

One step closer to IE's retirement

The arrival of Project Spartan in Windows 10 Technical Preview is pretty much the first step that Microsoft makes towards a long-awaited retirement of Internet Explorer, the browser that has been around for so many years as the default option for Windows users.

In the next iteration of Windows, Spartan will be offered alongside Internet Explorer in order to tackle any compatibility issues that might be found when loading specific websites or company apps, but there's no doubt that, at some point in the future, it will become the one and only browser of the OS.

Spartan will also be available as a universal app, so it'll be offered not only to PC users but also to those who purchase tablets and smartphones powered by Windows 10. This makes Spartan available across all platforms, which is part of a broader plan to offer a similar experience across all devices.

Before installing Windows 10 build 10049, you should know that it's only available to those in the fast ring and it also comes with a number of bugs, including email issues and Visual Studio 2015 incompatibilities.

Microsoft hasn't yet said anything about the timing when the slow ring could get it, but expect this to happen sometime next week if everything goes according to plan.
