Work on Windows 10 continues, so Microsoft has recently compiled a brand new build that comes with several UI improvements, including new icons for some of the most common places on the operating system.

Windows 10 build 10009 is not yet available to users, but as you can see in the screenshots that were published by Chinese website IThome, the company focused mostly on making the OS look better by adding new icons and other small tweaks that weren’t available in the previous builds.

At this point, we can’t confirm if these screenshots are indeed real or not, but all these changes are very likely to be offered in the upcoming versions of Windows 10, so chances are that they indeed come from a new technical preview build.

New icons for Control Panel and Recycle Bin

Little is known about the enhancements that could be part of build 10009, but these screenshots reveal a bunch of changes in terms of icons, which make the desktop UI look a bit flatter and more modern.

For instance, both the Recycle Bin and Control Panel now come with new icons that seem to better match Microsoft’s new design language, as the company seems to be ready to go all-in on the flat UI and dump the old Aero look that was previously available in Windows 7.

This is actually one of the most voted feature requests on UserVoice, as many users want Microsoft to replace system icons with new ones that look more modern and thus give a visual refresh to the operating system.

At the same time, Microsoft also added a new lighting icon to the Quick access section, as well as a more stylish icon for the hard drive, again with the clear purpose of making Windows 10 look fresh.

It’s not yet clear if this is the next build to be released to Windows Insiders, but expect all these changes to be part of a future Windows 10 technical preview version.
