Redmond will be offering a single store for everything

Windows 10 will come with a single store for everything you ever wanted to download on the operating system, and starting yesterday, testers can also download and purchase movies and TV shows.

But that’s not going to stop here, Microsoft says in a blog post today, as the Windows Store will become the one destination for absolutely all types of content, so in addition to apps, games, and videos, music will also be available in the coming weeks.

This is part of Microsoft’s plan to offer a complete experience on its new operating system, as music was previously offered via the Xbox Music app, while videos could be purchased from the Xbox Video app. Starting with Windows 10, both music and videos are integrated directly into the store, which will be offered with the very same features across all devices running this particular OS version.

For instance, PCs, smartphones, and tablets will all have the same store for a unified experience, with the concept of universal apps serving as the foundation for this new approach. Universal apps will work across all devices and will allow developers to target multiple platforms with the same code.

More improvements soon

Microsoft’s Brandon LeBlanc says that there’s more to come for the new Windows Store, with several other improvements currently under development and planned for future builds.

“The experience you will see today is unfinished and we have a lot more work to do. For example – you won’t see movie or TV details like cast and crew and you’ll only be able to stream video content right now. But don’t worry – offline download capability will be coming!” he explains.

LeBlanc has also revealed that the current Movies & TV section allows users living in the following countries to purchase and/or rent content: North America: US, Canada, Mexico, Austria, Belgium (only movies - no TV content), Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and New Zealand.

The new section is available in the new store on both build 10049 and the leaked 10051.
