Winamp was supposed to be discontinued on December 20, together with the adjacent services and the official website, but it turns out that some good news could be released soon for all fans of this media player.

According to some rumors that reached the web yesterday, AOL is currently in some advanced negotiations with an interested buyer, which could be the only way Winamp might actually survive.

Since one day has already passed beyond the retirement date and Winamp is still up for grabs, this could be a sign that AOL is indeed trying to sell the media player. While we have no official statement from the parent company, users who posted on the official forums confirm that Winamp can still be downloaded all over the world, so nobody knows for sure whether it would be retired or not.

In the meantime, users who want to stick to Winamp even if it goes dark should get the latest builds as soon as possible, just to make sure that AOL does not remove the app all of a sudden.
