As I’ve told you not a long time ago, Winamp has surprisingly remained up for grabs over the weekend, even though AOL announced last month that its media player would be discontinued on December 20.

Asked by Neowin what’s the deal with Winamp right now, a team member working for the multimedia player suggested that the application could indeed stay alive.

“I can’t say right now, but something is obviously happening. I’ll tweet any news updates via the Winamp account, if and when,” Eddy Richman said.

While he didn’t say it clearly, Winamp could indeed be sold to a third-party, as recent reports hinted that AOL is already discussing with an interesting company a possible sale.

There are not details as to who might be interested to purchase the media player, but previous speculation indicated that Microsoft itself may take it over and keep all adjacent services alive.
