Stating today, October 20th, Digiarty Software, the developer of a sum of applications bent on video manipulation, is offering the latest version of its DVD authoring tool for free. Even with Blu-ray gaining more and more turf and DVD standard slowly falling into oblivion, there is still demand on the market for apps cut off to help you create DVD movies out of various popular formats. The end result will not only be playable on your DVD player, but can also have menus for chapters and subtitles.

Until November 1st, 12:00 AM GMT, the company will be pushing WinX DVD Author to its users for free. No strings attached, no registration or email. Simply head to the download page and grab the full version of the application. Digiarty is making this offer in order to rake up suggestions and opinions from the users of WinX DVD Author and provide a much enhanced upgrade with the future issue.

The list of supported video formats it can convert to DVD video comprises AVI, MPEG, MP4, WMV, ASF, MOV, RM, RMVB or FLV, while the list of disc types includes DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, DVD DL+R or DVD DL+/-RW. According to the developer, WinX DVD Author can run in perfect harmony on Windows operating systems from 98 to the latest iterations, Vista and Windows 7 for which there is support for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Among the features of the product we count the DVD menu maker that lets you add background pictures, music or titles; video trimming is also listed, so you can convert to VOB only portions of the movies you like. Both NTSC and PAL video standards are supported by the program, so you can safely create a DVD and send it overseas, as long as you are aware of the video standard used by the recipient. Moreover, the result can be for widescreen (16:9) or standard screen (4:3) and you can make it as large as to fit a DVD 9 disc.

A built-in burning tool helps you write your work to disc, so the use of a different tool for this operation can be easily skipped. For an extensive evaluation of WinX DVD Author you can head to our review section and check out our rating and opinion on the software.
