The work on getting WinRAR 5.0 closer to a stable version progresses with today’s release of the fifth beta build.

The list of modifications for this revision is short and comprises only two entries. One of them addresses the failure to decompress RAR archives that included both encrypted and unencrypted files.

This glitch was noticed in the previous beta and did not affect the packages that contained only encrypted or unencrypted items.

In the case of RAR 5, the log report generated with the “–ilog” switch would use UTF-16 little endian encoding. Starting this build users can change it using the “-scg” switch; one example would be using “-scag” switch for ANSI encoding.

The shorter list of changes for this revision indicates that there may not be too long until we see a stable release.
