It improves handling of the compression dictionary

The development of WinRAR 5.0 progresses with today’s release of a new beta build. It is the fourth reiteration and it brings to the table improvements touching on the compression and decompression operation.

First on the list of enhancements is reducing the dictionary size when the archiving activity cannot allocate the necessary amount of memory for storing it.

The second entry in the change log announces that the decompression algorithm dictionary can be stored in several memory blocks.

This functionality is especially advantageous when extracting the archive on systems that do not have a single memory block large enough to hold the entire compression dictionary, due to a serious case of heap memory fragmentation.

Judging by the shorter list of changes accompanying the new beta releases the developer might be pretty close to launching the stable version for WinRAR 5.0.
