IObit launched a new stable release for their WinMetro, the application that can simulate Windows 8’s modern interface on older versions of Microsoft’s operating system.

The new version is 1.2.0.693 and it does not integrate any new features as the developer focused on improving overall stability of the program. However, according to the change log released by IObit, the fresh revision does bring to the table an increased number of settings.

As far as improvements go, they touch on the interface, and various sections of the modern UI, such as “Calendar,” “Internet Explorer” or “Photos.” Furthermore, an unspecified amount of bugs has been eliminated.

WinMetro is designed to bring the tile-based interface available in Windows 8 to earlier versions of the operating system, up to Windows XP. The goal is to turn the desktop into an informative space ready to offer various real-time details (weather forecast, news, stocks, calendar, etc.).
