With the political Gamerpics

The “Rock the Vote” campaign, which has been energizing the youth vote for the recent few political campaigns, is partnering up with the Xbox Live service offered by Microsoft for the Xbox 360 to launch an awareness campaign aimed at gamers. You can sign up for a contest by using your Gamerpic. You can download a Barack Obama, a John McCain, an Other and an Undecided Gamerpic and then use it. By choosing a pic, you basically show your willingness to vote for the particular candidate.

The organizers think that the unofficial poll will let pundits and candidates see where the young vote really lies. It is said that in 2008 both camps are counting on a higher than average turn out on the 18 - 30 demographic, that is largely absent when it comes to voting. So far, Obama seems to be the candidate that attracts most of young people because of his message of change while overall McCain is in a statistical dead heat.

Those that get Gamerpics related to the campaign are entered into a draw which will get a young voter a real Gibson guitar that he or she can then use to really rock the vote and everything else.

The awareness campaign is designed to get young people to register and then vote in the American elections that will take place in November. The elections are important because both presidential candidates, John McCain and Barack Obama, have expressed positions related to videogames and regulation. Obama said that the government should do more to get kids interested in education and physical activity rather than videogames, while McCain is noted for using in one of his ads music from Call of Duty, the videogame.

So, get your political Gamerpic, use it and then go out and vote if you're over 18.
