This might seem crazy, but it is in fact true. Shimpinomori.net website is organizing a contest for those who weren't that lucky and didn't manage to get their hands on a Sony next-gen. But they are not simply giving some PS3s away, you have to work (hack) to get one.
The winner of this hacking content will receive a 160GB PS3, which has
Linux
(Fedora core 5 PPC+ PS3 add-on) pre-installed, an HDMI cable and copy of Resistance Fall of Man (fall of console I might say). The content will be running until January of next year. In fact, the same website that has this announcement posted runs on the
PS3, or at least that is what they claim.
Now that we saw what is in store for us, let's see what we have to do to win. The website hosts a picture of an infant baby holding a
PS3 case. All you have to do is to replace this picture. Sounds easy? I wouldn't say that if I were you. Apparently, the hacking has to be clean, no DOS, no “dirty” attacks which saturate the Internet tubes are allowed. Most of all, you are forbidden of attacking any machines located in the same network.
Once you manage to hack it, you must announce your victory in a discussion thread in the ACBM forum, and send an email to Shimpinori. In case of any confusion, if two contestants claim to have hacked the PS3 first, the winner will be the one who will first send the email to Shimpinomori. If you feel up to the challenge of getting on with the hacking, I for one will let this one slide and I'll get a PS3 the old fashioned way.
