Users have the chance to win approximately $23,000 worth of prizes in total via the newly launched Windows Tech Makeover Contest. Microsoft has reserved no less than $13,000 for the Grand Prize winner, who will get a complete tech upgrade as well as a room makeover.

Unfortunately, as with many of the software giant’s similar initiatives, the Windows Tech Makeover Contest is only available to United States residents.

Customers living in the US will need to own a Facebook account in order to get additional details about the contest and participate.

After signing into Facebook, users will need to visit the Windows Tech Makeover Contest page, read the official rules posted by Microsoft, and Enter the competition.

“We are launching a contest on Facebook for a chance to win a grand prize package including a brand new Windows 7 PC All-in-One, two Windows 7 laptops, an Xbox 360 with Kinect, Kinect games, a flat screen monitor, wireless keyboard and $5,000 worth of interior design services with the help of television personality and designer, Vern Yip,” revealed Microsoft’s Kristina Libby.

“Together, that is worth over $13,000 USD. Not to mention, if you don’t win the grand prize, you’ll still be eligible for incredible runner-up prizes.”

The Windows Tech Makeover Contest went live on May 25th, on Facebook, but customers will have plenty of time to enter. The Submission Phase lasts for about a week, until June 1, 2011, after which the voting begins.

“To enter you’ll need to provide a few details about yourself and why you should win. The entry period is only for one week, so you’ll have to move fast. Then check back to vote for the top entrants,” Libby added.

Vern Yip will hold a live video chat on the Windows Tech Makeover Contest Facebook page at 9 am PST / noon EST on Thursday, May 26th.

“Ask Vern for design advice and get tips on how to design with technology, visit Windows on Facebook or Twitter (#techmakeover), submit your question, and tune into the Windows Facebook page to watch the discussion. Participants also have the chance to win prizes via Twitter,” Libby explained.

The Grand Prize winner will get no less than three new Windows 7 PCs, an Xbox 360 250GB complete with a Kinect NUI sensor. In addition, celebrity designer Vern Yip will redesign the winner’s room.

There are additional prizes lined up, including “Second Place: New Tech Makeover (worth up to $3,500) - Two new Windows 7 PCs, an Xbox 360® 250GB + Kinect, two wireless mice, plus onsite PC setup and help transferring your data.

“Third Place (3 winners): Windows 7 PC Makeover (each worth up to $2,000) - One new Windows 7 laptop, one wireless mouse, plus onsite PC setup and help transferring your data.”

Update: Minor changes to make it clear that the $22,000 amount is the combined value of all the prizes.
