Windows Phone is picking up Steam, and 2012 is expected to help it gain significant market share. Microsoft is keen on making sure that things are indeed like this, and came to CES 2012 to showcase the platform’s capabilities compared to what rivals have to offer.

The Redmond-based company was determined to prove to the world that Windows Phone devices were able to provide better features and capabilities than other handsets, and proposed a challenge for that.

Ben Rudolph, aka BenThePCGuy, Microsoft's Windows Phone (and Windows PC) evangelist, offers $100 to mobile phone users who can beat Windows Phone in speed.

“In the tech world, words like “fastest” and “easiest” are thrown around a lot. If you follow my tweets you’ve probably even heard me use them to describe Windows Phone,” he notes in a blog post.

“But those words mean very little if you’re not prepared to back them up. This year at CES, that’s exactly what I’ll be doing – by putting my money where my mouth is - with the #smokedbywindowsphone $100 Challenge.”

In the video embedded below, you can learn some more info on what the challenge is all about. You can also head over to Twitter to see how things are going.

“I’m so confident that Windows Phone makes things faster and easier that I’m willing to put a hundred bucks on the line to prove it,” Ben notes.

Apparently, he was right to propose the competition. During the first day at CES, Windows Phone outperformed the rest of handsets.

Ben’s devices managed to perform better than a wide range of Android smartphones, and even Apple’s iPhone 4S.

“Think you and your phone are up to the challenge? Follow me on Twitter to find out where I’ll be hosting the challenge at CES. I’ll be at the Microsoft Booth from 2-6pm on Tuesday and Wednesday, but the rest of the time my crew and I will be roaming the city looking for challengers,” Ben Rudolph also states.
