Electronic Arts has announced the start of the 2008 EA Sports NBA Live Challenge, which is going to tip off at the Universal Studios in Los Angeles on the 19th of January. This challenge will be held in eight major NBA cities and it will give basketball fans a chance to test their skills against the best of the best, while fighting for a $10,000 grand prize (and a little trip to New Orleans, if you manage to fight your way up to the last stage of the Tournament).

Stops along the 2008 EA Sports' challenge include Dallas, Texas; Chicago, Ill.; Atlanta, Ga.; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Boston, Mass.; and New Orleans, La, as well as other NBA-crazed cities. One finalist from each city will compete for the ultimate prize at the Finals which will be held at the NBA All-Star Jam Session that's going to take place in New Orleans. However, if you are not lucky enough to win the grand prize, but have some mad skills, you are still in the competition for bragging rights, cash and other prizes.

The live qualifying competitions will take place one day in each city on the Challenge Tournament schedule. All the games will be played using the Xbox 360 version of NBA Live 2008, and if you want to take a closer peek at the official rules, take a look at EA's website. You never know when luck might hit you, and you'll hit that last second half court three pointer which will bring you the victory in a close match. And when you think that exactly the same shot could have had a $10,000 value, you'll kind of understand the pressure real NBA players feel in real life. But we're talking about games here, so game on!
