Wimbledon Fashion Duel: Maria Sharapova vs. Serena Williams

As it became customary in past years, the beautiful Maria Sharapova's imminent debut at the Wimbledon tennis tournament this week once again raised the question of what the fiery Russian will choose in terms of on-court attire. Maybe another swan-inspired dress like the one that wowed her fans and fashion critics alike last year - or perhaps a new, spectacular pair of diamond-encrusted tennis shoes and some fabulous jewelry. We don't know for sure just yet - however, the one thing we do know is that the fashionable blonde has some major competition in the style department, as Serena Williams' attire as she stepped on court ahead of her first game was every bit as fashionable as Maria's.

The famous American player showed off her fashion sense by appearing on court wearing a white raincoat that she kept on as she warmed up for her first Wimbledon match, which she proceeded to win. She then stripped off the coat to reveal a matching white tennis dress. "It's definitely not athletic attire," she said about her coat, which was one of the main points of interest at the post-game press conference. "But it's ladylike and I'm very ladylike. It goes perfect with my personality and everything else. It's definitely kind of retro inspired; buckles on the wrist, the waistband tie. You can tie it or button it. I don't think it's going to keep the rain away but we can always hope," she added.

As for Sharapova, the speculations about her choice of costume have come to revolve around a combination of shorts and a vest-like sleeveless top. However, before she will actually hit the tennis court, the Russian player is expected to step out in a fashionable, all-white tailored suit resembling a tuxedo - which she will then strip off to reveal her choice of outfit. With Williams already through the first round, all eyes will be on Maria, as her fashion sense and her tennis skills will come under close fire. Stay tuned for more news.
