Willow Smith says she’s behind other kids in math but admits “famous-ness is awesome”

As she’s seeing her first single, “Whip My Hair,” climb the charts and she’s getting ready to go on tour with none other than Justin Bieber, Willow Smith, the 10-year-old daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, takes the time out to talk fame, school and music.

It must be common knowledge by now that Willow is, by far, one of the most exciting newcomers this year: and the popularity of her first single should offer whatever confirmation of that is necessary.

Speaking with The Telegraph of how her life has changed since she met Jay Z and started working on her debut in pop music, Willow proves that she is, indeed, very mature for her age.

However, while she seems to know how this whole celebrity game is played, she also admits there are some disadvantages to being such a busy little pop star as she is.

“I never really get to go to school because I am always on tour or with my father. There is a tutor most of the time, but usually I am working so I never get to do the lessons,” she says.

“The worst thing about maths is all the kids are ahead of me because they go to school,” the 10-year-old singer adds.

On the other hand, we all make sacrifices in life and, if she’s to sacrifice math to get her career, Willow seems determined to do just that. She says she’s worked too hard to throw it all out the window now.

“It’s what I’ve wanted to do my whole life. I get my flow from Daddy, my singing ability from Mommy, the camera stuff from both. That’s just what happens when you hang out with the Smiths,” Willow says, once again rubbishing reports she’s being pushed into a career in showbiz by her parents.

“It felt like all the hard work paid off, mostly that,” Willow says of getting to meet Jay Z before being signed to his record label.

“All the hard work that I’ve done, like recording ‘Whip My Hair’ – it’s paid off. We went to this building, I don’t remember what it was, but we had a meeting and I got to hang out with [Jay-Z] and meet him, and it was fun,” the singer says.

As we also noted only a few days ago, Willow Smith will be joining Justin Bieber on tour in Europe next year.
