Pretty much like James Franco before him, Willem Dafoe is going on the record with his disappointment in the fact that Hollywood would consider rebooting the “Spider Man” franchise so soon after Sam Raimi’s amazing trilogy.

It can’t but be a desperate attempt at making more money from the beloved superhero, Dafoe, who played Green Goblin in the original, says for Total Film.

“I saw a trailer for the first Spider-Man reboot and I thought, ‘This is crazy! It's not shot for shot, but it's the same story.’ I thought, ‘This is sort of a cynical approach to making money!’,” he explains.

“I like Spider-Man, the first one that I was involved in, because although you can argue all sorts of things, from my perspective it was very pure,” Dafoe continues.

Though he believes the reboot is “cynical,” at least Dafoe is honest and admits that he didn’t even get to see it because, he argues, he’s growing old and doesn’t have time for such things anymore.

Franco also blasted the reboot for being a desperate grab for money but he never clarified whether he’d seen it or not.

“The Amazing Spider-Man” is directed by Marc Webb, with the second installment scheduled to be out in May 2014.
