Some users will only want or need the basic features in a phone, while others can't live without all the advanced capabilities. But the bottom line is, when choosing a phone, the user can either go
for a basic, mid-level or advanced handset. This means that, after getting the phone, the user will be stuck with those features only until he/she decides to get another handset.
Willcom is now introducing a handset that can be both basic and advanced, depending on what the user wants it to be. The phone's features are fully customizable and the user gets to decide what capabilities to add. The base body represents a mini mobile phone with
Willcom W-SIM wireless module and can only be used to make and receive calls.
Up to six detachable modules are available, ensuring that its owner can add any functionality he/she might need. The modules include one that will add a numeric keypad and a GPS module that will turn the handset into a GPS-receiver device. There's also a camera module for users that would like to take snapshots, a finger print sensor for extra security and an USB module that ensures the handset can be connected to a PC.
And just in case one battery doesn't provide enough talk time, a battery module can be added to extend it. Willcom's phone is a just a
concept for now, dubbed the 'WP004' and there is no way to tell whether it will ever get released on the market. If it does turn into an actual product, the handset will most likely only be available in Asia.
