Considering that Sony has already sold 100,000 movies for the PSP, rumors about a future service similar to iTunes, but aimed at movies, might have a shred of truth.
Major studios like: Paramount, MGM, Disney/Buena Vista, Image and Universal have already announced their intention to launch UMD format movies and considering that Sony has "flooded" the
market with 5.27 million units in America and Japan only, there is already an impressive number of users who are willing to purchase games regardless of their location.
Anyway, there are several clues pointing out that Sony is "drooling" over iPod's success and that it might attempt to copy Apple's model for movies, Sony even making some statements about an online movie renting service.
In the same time, although momentarily all production studios are thrilled about the UMD format, a service similar to iTunes, but for movies, might not gain the same support.
But let's not forget that Sony has the hardware and the 5.27 million users, which are rock-solid arguments. And one other thing has to be taken into consideration; a movie playing iPod is still a dream. And that leaves room for ... Sony, which has all the market to itself. Will it seize it?
