A big new project

The gaming industry has been host to quite a lot of innovators along the years, but one of them really stood out when it came to giving players the power of a god upon all creatures - Will Wright. The mind behind massive hits such as The Sims or Spore, he employed gameplay mechanics and features unheard of in previous titles and really pushed the whole gaming industry forward.

Even though some scandal has covered his latest game, Spore, largely due to the fact that Electronic Arts, the company that published it, decided to employ the SecuROM DRM (Digital Rights Management) system in order to protect it against piracy, the game sold very well. In honor of his great work and for releasing such popular titles, the game creator has received the Gamer God distinction at the Video Game Awards, hosted by Spike TV, which took place last weekend.

Although he is not a very flamboyant type, Wright spoke with Joystiq and issued a very interesting statement about his next project. He didn't want to reveal anything big, but did say that it would be a completely new venture, and that it would take some time before it shapes up, so the community still needs to wait until concrete details appear.

“I'm working on a big new project that I'm very excited about, but I don't want to talk about it yet because if it takes three years to come out I don't want people saying 'Wow, he's been talking about that for a loooong time,'” revealed Wright.

Although this type of statement might be something characteristic for other game designers, Wright didn't really hype up any other title, so this might mean that something very interesting will come. Let's just hope that, whatever it is, it will be announced soon.
