Vampires might not be as hot today as they were a couple of years ago, but Bible stories are gaining ground in Hollywood. Will Smith will manage to kill two birds with one stone with his long gestating project “The Redemption of Cain.”

It’s just been greenlit and will go into production in early 2013, The Wrap reports.

Based on a script of Caleeb Pinkett (brother of Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith), “The Redemption of Cain” puts a vampiric twist on Cain and Abel’s story of sibling rivalry, but in what way it may alter it is not known yet.

At first, Will Smith was only listed as producer on the film but, as of now, he’s credited as both director and star.

“The Redemption of Cain” will be Smith’s directorial debut.
