James Avery, who played Uncle Philip Banks on the cult TV series “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” died on December 31, aged 68, from complications from heart surgery. His co-star Will Smith is now paying a heartfelt tribute to the late actor.

Smith posted the photo above, of the last time he was together with Avery (and other members of the cast) on his Facebook page, together with a short but very touching message to the man of whom he says helped him become a “respectable human being.”

“Some of my greatest lessons in Acting, Living and being a respectable human being came through James Avery. Every young man needs an Uncle Phil. Rest in Peace,” Will writes.

“This photo was the last time we were together,” he adds.

Fans are already applauding him for his heartfelt and direct tribute, as well as for pointing out the most important thing: besides an actor, James Avery was an amazing man.
