Will Ferrell made a surprise appearance at the Los Angeles Lakers vs. the Phoenix Suns game the other night at the Staples but, this time, he wasn’t there as a basketball fan, but as a redcoat, one of the security guards.

Check out the video above to see him acting the part.

At one point, after staring into the crowd stone-faced, Ferrell made a sign towards someone off camera and immediately approached him.

It turns out he was talking to Shaquille O’Neal, who was immediately escorted out with his hands behind his back. Even more amazing than Ferrell’s performance was how Shaq played along with the whole thing so, yes, chances are he was in on it from the beginning.

While Will’s love of basketball is well known, word online has it he’s already promoting his upcoming film, “Anchorman: The Legend Continues.”

If he is, that doesn’t explain the name tag on his red coat. Check out the video and see if you can make out what it reads.
