Nintendo, the maker of the Nintendo Wii, is announcing that it has released this week's offering through the WiiWare service. The digital download games are led by the first FPS to be released through the service and also contain some titles for the Virtual Console, which aims to bring older releases to the attention of newer gamers.

Onslaught is a first person shooter developed by Hudson Entertainment. It is rated T for Teen, as it contains violence and animated blood. It costs 1,000 Wii Points. The title supports up to four players and makes the gamer smack in the middle of a future conflict between humans and the inevitable aliens, this time of an insectoid variety. The player is part of the Elite Interstellar Strike Force and the highlights of the game are the boss battles, which require focus and a lot of firepower. If single player is not your thing, then you can use the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection to get into multiplayer either in Free Battle mode or in Ranking Battle mode.

This WiiWare-based shooter is likely paving the way for other more hardcore games coming to the Nintendo Wii, like the FPS The Conduit, which is being published by SEGA.

The Virtual Console service is getting no less than three Commodore 64 titles and Nintendo promises that more classic titles are on the way. The Last Ninja costs 500 Wii Points and casts the player as Armakuni, the last ninja, who must summon all his courage in order to face and defeat the evil Shogun Kunitoki, who aims to steal the power of the ninjas. International Karate is also 500 Wii Points and is a karate simulation that can be played either against the computer or in two player mode.

Lat but not least, players can get Pitstop II, recommended as being “the first game that brought serious auto racing action to the computer screen.” There's split screen action and six of the toughest tracks in the world to race on.
