Nintendo is announcing that it is planning to introduce a big firmware update for the Wii U home console during the autumn months in order to add new system functionality.

A note in the change log for the new 3.1.0 firmware states, “A system update providing further additions to system functionality is planned for release between the end of September and beginning of October.”

Traditionally, the company does not offer such information and the fan base is already speculating that Nintendo plans to introduce a major software overhaul.

This will be coupled with a price drop for the Wii U in an effort to increase overall sales of the home console.

Nintendo has claimed that while sales might be subpar, it is satisfied with how its new device is performing at the moment.
