Nielsen, the consumer-oriented market research firm, says that the Nintendo Wii U home console is in the top of requests for Christmas for potential gamers with ages between six and twelve.

The winner of the survey was the iPad from Apple, but the new home console from Nintendo, which includes a new touch screen enabled controller, is in a respectable second place, ahead of other devices like the iPad Mini, the iPhone, the older DS, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.

A classic PC build was equal in young player interest to the Kinect motion tracking system and ahead of the PlayStation Move and the Vita handheld.

20 percent of those surveyed were also interested in the older Wii.

The Wii U is at the moment only offered on the North American market and Europe and Japan will get it by December 8.
