The changes might be linked to coming big launches

The Wii U home console is receiving a new firmware update from Nintendo, labeled 5.1.2 U, which is designed to improve overall stability and usability for the device and to make sure that the user experience is the best it can be.

The company tends to be tight-lipped when it comes to the changes that it is making via its updates, but the new system update might be linked to the launch of new titles like Hyrule Warriors or Super Smash Bros.

There is also a chance that the company is aiming to stop any homebrew content from being run on the Wii U.

The official support site states, “After the Wii U system is updated, any existing or future unauthorized technical modification of the hardware or software of your Wii U system, or the use of an unauthorized device in connection with your system, may render the system permanently unplayable.”

As the PlayStation 4 from Sony and the Xbox One from Microsoft battle for dominance in the current generation of consoles, the Wii U is underperforming, although Nintendo claims that it has managed to recently gain a little momentum.

The device is seen as underpowered and a number of publishers are no longer willing to support it in the future.

Until now, Nintendo has also failed to use its big franchises, from Mario to Zelda, in order to significantly boost sales.
