We already known that video game hardware maker and publisher Nintendo will be launching the Wii U home console during 2012 but we still lack a lot of details about the new device, something that the company plans to rectify all through the year.

Speaking with Spike at the CES 2012 event Reggie Fils-Aime, who is the leader of the American division of Nintendo, stated, “Essentially, we will be sharing information throughout the entire year.”

He added, “I won’t say you’re going to have to wait until E3, but certainly we’re not breaking any news here; no launch date, no launch price, no game line-up. We will be sharing a whole lot of information all through the year on how we will be driving Wii U into households this year.”

At CES Nintendo has been showing off the Wii U behind closed doors, which suggests that while some changes have been made from the version of the device that was shown last year at E3 the hardware team at Nintendo is still working on improving the overall performance.

Fils-Aime also said that the initial launch line-up for the 3DS handheld had problems, mainly because of the lack of high profile Mario titles, and said that the company would not make the same set of mistakes for the Wii U.

The executive believes that the games would deliver “experiences that are going to drive the install base.”

The fact that Nintendo is shifting important resources to create the video games for the Wii U might mean that the line-up for the 3DS might suffer during 2012, with third party publishers expected to step into the breach and deliver the games needed to sustain sales.

The Wii U will offer the same computing power as other current generation consoles and a new controller complete with a touch screen.

The console does not yet have an official launch date.
