Despite the fact that no official video game project has been announced, the leader of the team working at Nintendo on The Legend of Zelda has said that he is excited about the possibilities that are created by the new Wii U home console.

Speaking to Game Informer Eihi Aonuma, who is the series producer working on The Legend of Zelda, has stated, “The demo that we showed at E3 was really just more of a rough idea of if all we were to do was to take a Zelda game and put it in HD, this is what it might look like.”

He added, “We’re much more interested in looking at the power of the Wii U system and seeing how we can take advantage of that power to do things that we haven’t been able to do in a Zelda game before. One of our goals with Skyward Sword is to be the first step in illustrating for people how the Zelda series can change and evolve.”

Aonuma has also talked about the 3DS handheld and, despite his unwillingness to confirm a project for the device, said that a Legend of Zelda game for the platform will only exist if the developers can do something meaningful with the 3D features.

The Nintendo Wii U has been unveiled at the E3 trade show and the company says that it will be offering the same processing power as the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 and will come complete with a revolutionary new controller which incorporates a touch screen and traditional controls.

The device currently lacks an official launch date and a price point although most analysts believe that it will sell for less than 250 dollars.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be launched during November on the Nintendo Wii and many believe that a Wii U version will also be released during 2012.
