At least that is what Time magazine thinks

As the year 2006 ended, everyone has started making all kinds of classifications and rankings and - of course - the gaming industry needed to have one too. Time magazine wanted to cover all possible areas - gaming included - and made a 2006 classification for all kinds of areas of interest, starting with crimes and scandals to podcasts and books.

In their opinion, the most important game of 2006 is Wii Sports. It has managed to take the first spot on Time's ranking, coming in front of some important games of 2006, games like Gears of War, New Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. This is what they had to say about Wii Sports:

"There is no possible way to say this enough times: great graphics don't make great games. Perfect Dark Zero looked like a Titian, but it was a snooze. Wii Sports-a mini-sports anthology that includes golf, boxing, tennis, baseball and bowling-looks like Colecovision. The little guys on the screen don't even have arms. But it's hilarious, and it shows off the power of the motion-sensitive Wii controller to put you right in the game, sweating and yelling and trying crazy spins and lunges and angles. The tennis game alone is worth the price of admission. Which is nothing, since it comes free with the Wii."

Gears of War managed to secure the second position of their classification, because if its "deeply immersive" graphics and good voice acting. Next is New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS, on the third place, and Time describes it as a game derived from awesomeness. I don't know about awesome, but the game is great because it keeps the old Mario feeling.
