At the press conference which also confirmed that launch date and price for the 3DS handheld in Japan Nintendo has also officially confirmed the existence of a new model of the Wiimote, called the Wii Remote Plus, which combines both the original device and the Motion Plus add on in a good looking new package.

Nintendo has not talked about the price of the new Wii Remote or about the launch date but more information is expected soon.

The first information about the new Wii Remote Plus arrived about one week bad with a GameStop listing for the video game FlingSmash mentioning that it would come package with the new peripheral, which makes sense considering that it cannot be played if the gamer does not have Motion Plus.

The Motion Plus add one arrived more than one year earlier with Nintendo saying that it allowed for more accurate control of the motion tracking, allowing gamers to make more pinpoint gestures.

The announcement of the new Wii Remote Plus comes just as both Sony and Microsoft are making inroads into motion tracking, with the PlayStation Move and the Kinect devices.

Sony has already put out the PlayStation Move, which uses a camera and a physical handheld controller to allow for motion tracking and it has Sports Champions as a mini game collection title to support the launch.

Kinect is also set to arrive on November 4 in North America and is even more ambitious, allowing gamers to control the Xbox 360 interface and games using movements of their bodies, with no physical controller.

The new Wii Remote Plus can be seen as an answer to these launches, showing that the Wii experience is still accurate and that it has a good number of applications which support motion tracking, certainly more than the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3.
