Nintendo's latest idea is "Miiusic" to my ears

The Guitar Hero franchise seems to be dominating the music game market lately, replacing all the karaoke-based titles that were so hip 5 years ago. They seem to rock on all major consoles, Wii included, but Nintendo can't just sit and watch as other people are developing products for their top-selling console. Enter Wii Music...

This name you've surely heard as a canceled title, but it's not, as a couple of details regarding it have just surfaced. Introduced for the first time at E3 in 2006, the game promises to feature all of the famous Nintendo themes you've heard, played by a great Mii-based orchestra.

The players enter the game by using 2 Wiimotes to play the drums, or by virtually playing a trumpet, still with the aid of a Wii remote, at a different angle. In case you didn't know, there are tons of videogame-based concerts as we speak, and the artists usually perform beautiful scores from games like Silent Hill, Final Fantasy, but also Zelda and even Mario.

Since Nintendo's trademark characters are so famous, this also goes for the soundtracks of the games they're featured in, so why not give this audio phenomenon a pleasant twist?

Wii Music features 40 instruments, satisfying any fan of any musical genre out there. We'll be playing folk or bass guitars, maraccas, marimbas and God knows what other instruments plus we'll be given a chance to conduct a mighty fine orchestra.

A replay option allows gamers to show their skills to their friends and the musical experience is divided into sessions. A session includes 6 playable parts, allowing 4 gamers and 2 CPU "players" to create the best Wii symphony based on a Zelda or Mario theme.

Wii Music is scheduled for a 2008 release, without a clearly stated date, for now, but we'll keep you posted as new info surfaces.
