In the United Kingdom

Last week, the NPD Group numbers for the United States videogames market came out, chronicling the sales for the month of March. The best sold videogames was Resident Evil 5, the zombie shooter created by Capcom, which sold more about 1.5 million units in one month.

Wii Fit only managed to come in fourth in the chart. One of the titles that came ahead of it was Halo Wars, a real time strategy game released for the Xbox 360 that saw very good sales.

Still, in the weekly chart for the United Kingdom, Wii Fit from Nintendo reigns supreme, holding off the challenge of The Godfather II from Electronic Arts for the second week in a row. The gangster simulation, with its new strategic layers and its heaps of violence, continues to sell well, mainly because it promises to put players in the well ironed suit of a “made man.”

The third spot in the chart is taken by FIFA 09 from EA Sports. The football simulation is probably selling well because players are eager to replicate the exciting matches they see on TV. Sadly, it's never as exciting in the videogame, as the AI is much too weak.

Mario & Sonix at the Olympic Games from SEGA dropped one place to get to four, while Resident Evil 5 is continuing its slow descent, falling another place to number five. At six, Nintendo DS fans can find Professor Layton and the Curious Village, with its myriad of puzzles, while Mario Kart Wii for the Nintendo Wii sits at number seven.

Nintendo has another game in the chart at number eight, with Wii Play, while Activision sees Call of Duty: World at War fall three places, to number nine. 2K must be pleased with Carnival: Funfair Games going to number ten, coming from 16. Monsters vs Aliens, from Activision, based on the newly released animated movie, entered the chart at number 20.
