Shigeru Miyamoto, the Nintendo game creator who put together the Wii Fit concept, has said that he sees the Plus sequel set for release not as a real follow up to the first game but rather as an enhanced version, which aims to expand the usability of the concept and allow gamers to play the title for a longer time.

In chat with Satoru Iwata, one of the bosses of Nintendo, Miyamoto has stated that “We began developing Wii Fit Plus with a kind of typical game developer's way of thinking: since the first one has sold well, we should come up with a sequel,” adding that “As we'd managed to come up with such a solid core, I personally felt that we should get this on the market quickly with the intention of saying to Wii Fit users: 'Use this to get an enhanced version of Wii Fit!'”

Somehow, he sees the development of Wii Fit as going from Microsoft XP to Vista and then to Windows 7 as a progression that does not change the core concept in any way, focusing on offering players a chance to improve their fitness via a wide array of routines, but makes the experience of getting to the goal better.

For example, Miyamoto says that it took him four tries to actually settle on a new model for the way the customization of routines was accomplished in Wii Fit Plus. This is just one of the areas improved in the fresh release, in addition to getting more options for strength exercises and better options related to setting goals.

Speaking about the new features in the videogame allowing for pets to be weighted via the Balance Board, the game designer also revealed that he has a bit of an obsession with measuring things, which even leads him to carry a measuring tape in his pocket all the time.
