She has kept her silence for so long, but there is only so much that Rachelle Spector can take, especially now that her husband has been sentenced to 19 years in jail for second degree murder. The wife of the once-famous music producer is speaking out against the California State prison and the staff there, saying her husband is being treated worse than an animal, as NME can confirm.

According to Rachelle, who, at 28, is Spector’s junior by no less than 41 years, her husband is not being treated kindly in jail. Speaking with the media, the wife of the former music producer says that Phil has not enough living space, and complains that he spends most of the day (save for half an hour) confined to it, which equals to being treated like an animal. For those who are not in the know, Spector was sentenced last month to 19 years in prison for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson, following two lengthy trials and much controversy in the media.

“He’s locked in a five-by-nine [foot] cell, 23-and-a-half hours a day.” Rachelle Spector tells the media when asked about her husband and how he has accommodated in the California State prison where he’s to serve his sentence. “They treat people worse than animals. I want that known.” she adds. While she obviously has a problem with the way Phil is treated in jail, Rachelle does not detail on whether she or his attorneys plan to do anything in this sense, like asking to have Phil moved to another facility, or anything along those lines.

In the same interview, Rachelle Spector also denies she’s anything even remotely close to a trophy wife, saying that people need to stop being so judgmental as far as she’s concerned. She has never taken anything from Phil Spector, and she doesn’t plan to start doing so now, Rachelle explains, so those calling her a gold-digger are just too prejudiced to bother to get to know her as she really is.

“Younger woman, older man, gold digger, whatever. I don’t take anything from my husband, and I never have. I’m a good person, but people don’t see any of that or know how hard I work.” Rachelle Spector concludes by explaining.
