The smartphone may not come with mobile network connectivity

It looks like Sony plans to launch a Wi-Fi-only version of Xperia Z Ultra. The company’s huge phablet is one of the most expensive smartphones launched by Sony and will soon turn into a tablet if the information turns out to be accurate.

GSMArena reports that the phablet has been recently spotted in AnTuTu Benchmark, but also made its way to FCC (Federal Communications Commission) where it may have already received the much-needed approval.

Unlike the standard model, the Wi-Fi-only Xperia Z Ultra may not pack mobile network connectivity, though the information has yet to be confirmed. If this proves to be true, then we’re left with a 6.4-inch tablet, which is larger than a phablet, but smaller than a tablet.

According to the listing on AnTuTu Benchmark, this Xperia Z Ultra model is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8074 Snapdragon 800 chipset, which is said to lack mobile network connectivity.

Other than that, the Wi-Fi-only Xperia Z Ultra might come with an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit as well, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.

Unfortunately, there might be at least one inconsistency in the specs list appearing on AnTuTu Benchmark. Given the model number (SGP412), which was spotted back in November, the Wi-Fi-only Xperia Z Ultra should pack 32GB of internal memory, not 16GB as listed.

But aside from that, the rest of the specs seem to be accurate, though there aren’t too many available. We suspect that the Wi-Fi-only Xperia Z Ultra will offer similar features as the standard model with the exception of mobile network connectivity and more storage.

Thus, we expect the phablet to come with an enhanced 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and water-proof certification.

The smartphone seems to be powered by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system, but it will definitely receive and Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade soon after launch. Stay tuned for more updates on this one.
