Seemingly, the app is awaiting approval from Apple

A poster on the fring community page claims to have caught a glimpse of fring's “official” announcement, saying the app that does VoIP over Wi-Fi is “now available on the iPhone App Store.” If true, Apple could be in the process of approving (or denying) the application's availability on the venue.

fring actually released its functional application in February. iPhone and iPod touch users got it in April. However, it only worked (and still does for the time being) for owners of a jailbroken device. A searchable contact list that includes contacts from Skype, MSN Messenger, or Google Talk, for example, lets jailbroken users see who is available, and then call them over Wi-Fi, using fring.

While it is still hard to believe Apple will approve this sort of service (given the latest turn-downs of apps half as “draconian”), fring appears to be locked-and-loaded. All it needs is Apple's approval (apparently).

“It seems that the iPhone page got updated earlier than expected by a mistake probably,” Aeon writes on the fring “community” section. “For those that didn't have the chance to see it,” Aeon was kind enough to share the findings.

Fring is now available on the iPhone App Store making it easy for anyone to use fring on the original iPhone, iPhone 3G or iPod touch.

All you need to do is download fring here on the iPhone App Store and within minutes you can make free calls with other fringsters or via fring using Skype, Skype-out or any SIP providers you choose.

You will have one searchable contact list with all your instant messaging buddies from Skype, MSN Messenger, Google Talk, ICQ, Twitter, Yahoo! and AIM so you can easily see whose available and where they can be reached before dialing or starting a live chat session.

In short, you can finally interact with all your favorite internet applications, services and communities from your iPhone.

Now that’s fringing freedom!

Indeed, the last sentence is fring's actual motto, but anyone with a keyboard, decent eyesight and an urge to stir... things up could have easily faked this announcement. So, how are you taking it all in and, most importantly, how eager are you to grab this app?
